The First Taste of Mango Season
Meet Dave Gray, Mel and Sam. Their Kensington Pride mangoes are the first of the season to reach Harris Farm Markets, picked with flavour in mind.
First in season · Kensington Pride
For us, mango season begins at Lake Bennett. Dave Gray, Mel and Sam grow Kensington Pride mangoes in the Northern Territory. Their fruit arrives before mangoes from other Australian growing regions, giving us that first proper taste of the season.

How they grow
Good mangoes take their time
Dave lets his mangoes mature on the tree, rather than pushing them to ripen early. That extra time helps the fruit develop its natural sweetness and full Kensington Pride flavour.
It's a choice made for how the mango eats. Picking ripe fruit means handling it carefully, especially on its way from the Northern Territory to our stores.
From orchard to market
Picked when they're ready
Dave works closely with Martin, our mango buyer, and Carlo, our head of fresh buying, to decide when to pick. The aim is to let the fruit reach the right point on the tree, then get it moving to stores quickly.
Ripe Kensington Pride mangoes are more delicate to transport, so timing and care matter at every step. It's more work, but it means the first mangoes of the season arrive with the flavour we want you to enjoy.

The partnership
A handshake that still means something
Dave's relationship with Harris Farm Markets began with a handshake with our founder, David Harris. Years later, the understanding is still the same: grow mangoes that taste good, and work together to get them to customers at their best.
That trust gives David and our buying team the room to put eating quality first, season after season.
