From a Family Farm to a World of Mangoes

Meet Alvise Brazzale, whose family found a new future for their farm among the mango trees of Far North Queensland.

There's a lot of family history behind a Brazzale mango. Alvise runs the farm his parents built after moving from Italy to Australia following World War Two. It wasn't always a mango farm. Their next chapter began with a few trees already growing on the property and a decision to try something new.

How it began

A change of crop, a new family story

After the war

Alvise's parents came to Australia from Italy and made their home on a farm in Mutchilba. In those early years, they grew tobacco.

Late 1970s

When the government introduced a tobacco buyback scheme, Alvise and his father saw a chance to grow something else. There were already established mango trees on the farm, so they began building on what was there.

Today

Alvise carries on the family farm, now growing mangoes across 70 hectares in the Mareeba region of Far North Queensland.

The farm now

Plenty of room to grow

At Mutchilba, Alvise's 70-hectare farm is home to more than 1,000 flowering mango trees. The family took a chance on mangoes decades ago, and those trees have become the heart of the farm.

From the orchard

One farm, five mango varieties

Brazzale grows more than one kind of mango. Depending on the season, you might find these varieties coming from the farm:

  • Kensington Pride
  • Palmer
  • Keitt
  • Calypso
  • Brooks

The Harris Farm connection

A relationship that's grown with the farm

We've worked with Brazzale Mangoes for more than 10 years. Alvise and our buying team have built a strong relationship around good fruit and the different varieties his farm grows. When Brazzale mangoes are in season, we're glad to share them with you.
