Harris Farm Markets Opens State-of-the-Art National Distribution Centre in Greystanes

Harris Farm Markets, one of Australia’s leading premier grocery retailers, proudly announces the opening of its brand-new, state-of-the-art distribution centre at Warehouse 1, 44 Clunies Ross Street, Greystanes. This 34,000 square-metre facility will serve as the national distribution hub, solidifying Harris Farm's commitment to supply chain efficiency and sustainability.

Purpose-Built for Future Growth

The new distribution centre is purpose-built to support the future expansion of Harris Farm Markets as it continues to grow its footprint across Australia. Operating seven days a week, the facility ensures efficient service to 40 Harris Farm Markets stores and beyond.

With 18,602 square-metres of warehouse space, the centre boasts state-of-the-art freezer, chiller, and dry goods storage for food and retail products. Key infrastructure includes food processing areas, production zones, main dock offices, employee amenities, and a vast external car park.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is integral to the design of the new centre. It features a 1-Megawatt solar power system, with a goal of targeting a 5-Star Green Star “As Built” rating, helping to reduce the carbon footprint. Energy and water usage are closely monitored, while translucent roof sheeting brings in natural lighting, reducing energy consumption. Rainwater tanks have also been installed to cut water usage significantly.

The facility will operate electric forklifts, maintained on-site in a dedicated area, further reinforcing Harris Farm’s sustainability goals. The 19 docks, designed to accommodate long-haul trucks, are equipped with cooling curtains to reduce temperature loss, boosting both efficiency and eco-friendliness.

State-of-the-Art Technology Enhancing Operations

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the distribution centre features automated splitting and sorting systems capable of processing up to 4,500 cartons per hour, minimising manual labour and increasing overall efficiency. This innovation will be key in managing growing store demand and ensuring quick delivery to customers.

The centre’s technological advancements also extend to various temperature-controlled environments, world-class prep rooms for meat, cheese, and yoghurt production, and specialty storage rooms for chocolate and liquor.

Freezers equipped with advanced anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems can reach temperatures as low as -20°C, ensuring superior product preservation and quality control.

A Next Step in Harris Farm’s Growth

The new centre offers additional infrastructure, including dedicated amenities for truck drivers and support for long-haul truck rollouts, paving the way for seamless nationwide distribution.

Angus Harris, Co-CEO of Harris Farm Markets, expressed his enthusiasm:
“This new distribution centre marks a significant milestone for Harris Farm Markets. It’s been years in the making and represents the next step in maximising our efficiency and supply chain capabilities. We’re excited about what this will bring in terms of delivering high-quality, fresh produce to families across Australia.”
