Dave's Market Update QLD - 15 February 2023
IN FRUIT
We are now transitioning to new season fruit in some lines. Gala apples have commenced, and they are the only fresh apple available, all other varieties are last year's fruit that has been in storage. We source our early fruit from Stanthorpe, near the NSW border, it is excellent and eats better than the Victorian fruit which is widely sold because it looks good.
In grapes, we are finishing off our Menindee seedless and moving to the Ivory variety, which is also from the southern growing areas. With green pears, the old season Packham pears are finished, and we have commenced the new season Williams pears. Figs are getting better every day and nets of passionfruit remain great value though not as cheap as last week.
Peaches and nectarines are both of excellent quality and value. My pick out of these this week are the white peaches.
IN VEG
Yellow capsicums are the best value veg we have this week - less than half last week's price!
My favourite snacking tomatoes, Sweet Delights, are great value this week, as is corn.
Iceberg lettuce, broccoli, and broccolini are very reasonable, while zucchinis from our Imperfect Picks section remain a bargain.
