Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Imperial Mandarins - Wednesday 16 July 2025

Dave's Market Update

In FRUIT

“Still blueberries are our number one line. They are eating fantastically, not really cheap yet but very reasonably priced. As well the imported cherries are at their best for the next two weeks or so.

For the back-to-school lunch box it’s hard to go past imperial Mandarins, sweet, juicy and still got another few weeks before the end of the season.

Both kiwis are good value and good eating as are navel oranges.

All apples and pears are excellent, to me the cosmic crisp are best of the lot.”

In VEG

“A few good alternatives coming up this week. Firstly there is suddenly a lot more broccolini available and prices have come right back on this very popular vegetable.

There has been a dramatic fall in the price of snow peas as some new crop fantastic quality product starts this week. Red caps remain excellent value, though no less in price than last week.

Again similar to last week week we are seeing some very good imperfect tomatoes available which will take the pressure off all the other tomatoes. Snacking carrots, perfect for kids lunch boxes, are great value.

Fennel, imperfect zucchini and imperfect kumera are all excellent value. In the NSW stores this week we have a couple of very good value Asian veg specials and green Shanghai and Wombuk cabbage as well as snow peas will all be cheaper this week than they have been.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Imperial Mandarins

“My pick this week is imperial mandarins from the southern areas. They are different to the Queensland fruit we get in May and early June and in my view more reliable and excellent eating fruit.

This year is the best they have been for many seasons. It seems all growers, whether the fruit is premium or imperfect, small or large, are all really eating well. Most years the first week in August sees this variety out so get in now and enjoy them at their best."
