Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Imperfect Pink Lady Apples - Wed 22 Apr 2026

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“Probably the bargain of the week in veg is corn; both pre-pack and loose are superb quality, eating fantastically and inexpensive.

The other product I would absolutely rave about are our loose cocktail potatoes. They are very cheap and very, very good, probably the best I have seen in 50 years. Lightly boiled then in the pan with butter and chives, it doesn’t get any better.

The other great value veg are a couple of our imperfect picks this week. Zucchinis that are a bit too big to go on our premium stack and gourmet tomatoes both represent fantastic value. All cucumbers continue to be inexpensive, be it Lebanese, Telegraphs or those fantastic little baby cukes.

Enjoy the bargains at your local HFM store.”

In Fruit

“This category continues to be dominated by Imperial mandarins, this is their month and this seems to be a particularly good season for them; they are really eating well and are incredibly inexpensive.

We also have a great selection of apples coming to market particularly Kanzi, Ambrosia and Jazz all really good quality and fresh. This week, the first of the Pink Ladies are in our stores. These are now the most popular apple we sell, and they are the last apple to be picked.  Many orchards won’t pick these for another two or three weeks and even later in Western Australia.

Other Autumn fruits now in season include Kiwi Gold from New Zealand and are actually cheaper than the green varieties. Finally, we are growing enough gold fruit to not have difference in price based on supply numbers.

Corella pears are now in full swing, and we have a fantastic line of these in our imperfect section. Fuyu fruit and persimmons are both now well under way too and we will have specials on these in the coming weeks.

The very last of the stone fruit for the year are instore as well these are Flavourfall plums which are also fantastic eating.

Enjoy eating the best fruit as it comes into season at your Harris Farm store.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Pink Lady Apples

"My pick this week is the Pink Lady apples. This apple is now by far the most popular apple we sell. It is the last apple to be picked, in fact, in some areas the harvest is either still happening or even yet to happen. This, of course means that until just recently the pinks were last years fruit. Now it's fresh and fantastic.

We have large fruit, small fruit and imperfect fruit. There is an apple to suit every budget. They are very well priced, crisp and fresh. Ideal to snack on or send to school with the kids. Their disproportionally high share of the total apple market is I think thoroughly well deserved."

- David Harris

HOW TO PICK
Choose firm fruit - the flesh of the apple should not easily give way to finger pressure.
HOW TO STORE
To keep your apples fresher for longer, store them in the fridge.
