Dave's Market Update
In Veg
“Some very good solid staple vegetables this week that will help stretch the budget at Harris Farm. We have premium quality, new season brushed potatoes in all our stores at a very attractive price.
Truss tomatoes that were cheap last week, are even cheaper this week. Broccoli; superb quality has eased in price again and cheaper than it has been in months.
Corn on the cob which is really eating well remains inexpensive. All capsicums are not dear, however reds are really cheap, it’s a great week for winter veg at your local HFM store.”

In Fruit
“At last, we are having the weather we need for the best eating berries. Warmer days, cold nights and minimal rain. All HFM stores have a great strawberry special this week we have been looking for this for a month now. As well, there are excellent blueberries in store. I have sampled all the fruit we are selling this week, none are dear and I must recommend you go for the premium blueberries, for a little extra you are getting a genuinely superior product.
In citrus, the Imperials we are getting are still very good but we are really near the end for these. It’s about time to switch to Murcotts. They are fantastic to eat but a bit harder to peel. Blood oranges are making beautiful juice, I am mixing them with the tail end of the Cara Cara’s for my morning juice. The NSW stores will have special on imperfect Cara’s this weekend at a price I did not think would ever happen again.
Bravo apples have been dear but have an opportunity to offer them this weekend at a very reasonable price, I will be surprised if you see them any cheaper this year.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Brushed Potatoes (Sifra Variety)
We have New Season brushed potatoes from Hillston as our pick for this week. The grower we favour is Red Gem, and their best variety at this stage is the Sifra.
The red soils of this area and the pristine water supply provides us with some of the best potatoes we sell all year. The potatoes are fresh, superb quality and a great price.
I would suggest buying a couple of weeks supply. Keep them in a dark cool place and they will be as good in two weeks’ time as they are today.
HOW TO PICK
Pick spuds that feel firm and heavy - avoid those with sprouting eyes, or green discolouration. For even cooking, choose potatoes that are similar in size.
HOW TO STORE
Store potatoes in a cool, dry place away from light - the kitchen
