Dave's Market Update - 8 February 2023

A collage of seasonal fruit and vegetables

IN FRUIT

A good week for stonefruit. Peaches and nectarines continue to be excellent value. My recommendation is that the white-fleshed varieties of both are the best eating this week. Both imperfects and premium fruit are excellent value.

Plums are really getting underway with Amber Jewel and Queen Garnett being the pick of the bunch. This is the start of the good-eating plums that we will enjoy for the next two months.

There is a flush of good, sweet-eating juicy passionfruit this week, and we will have specials on these in all stores. For berries, I will be taking raspberries home - great flavour and a fair price for excellent quality.

IN VEG

Lots of good veg options this week. Our pick of the week in NSW is basil - this will be the week to make pesto for the year! Not so well supplied in Queensland however we have a very good line of imperfect red capsicums up there that represents fantastic value in the sunshine state.

A couple of other bargains are to be found in cauliflowers and corn. Tomatoes have moved up in price, however, there are still bargains to be had in some snacking tomato lines and imperfect tomatoes are good and cheap. Shallots and cukes are also well-priced.
