Dave's Market Update - 31 August 2022
In Fruit:
Berries are really great value again this week. The Queensland strawberries are fully flavoured and the weather up there remains perfect for berries. We have great quality and reasonable prices. Blueberry crops from northern NSW and Queensland are increasing and prices are starting to ease. All citrus is well supplied, as are apples and pears. The early mangoes are not fantastic and there is a fair amount of inferior fruit on the market. It will get better and I suggest you wait another week for these.Â
Navels are now at their best and keeping well. Mandarins are coming off the boil a bit but blood oranges are still superb. With apples we have an excellent line of Kanzis in our stores this week.
In Veg:
It’s just so pleasing to see our shops full of top quality, well priced vegetables again. North Queensland is pretty well back to normal and so are most of the prices. Tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, imperfect eggplant, midi cos lettuce and broccoli are all stand out specials. As always, our imperfect options are even cheaper again. Beans particularly are as cheap as I have seen them in nearly a decade and great eating. Enjoy.
