Dave's Market Update - 3.11.21
In veg: Spring vegetables continue to be well supplied and superb quality. Truss tomatoes and snacking tomatoes are all very well priced and, similarly to last week, truss are cheaper than regular tomatoes. Lebanese cucumbers, asparagus, loose beetroot, shallots and broccolini are all top quality and well-priced. The weather looks promising and all vegetables should be great value in the next few weeks, as the Victorian crops get underway!
In fruit:Â We have couple of extraordinarily good value Imperfect lines in our NSW stores this week. Imperfect Pink Lady apples are very cheap and very good, as well as Imperfect lemons. These are not suitable for the premium stack as they are just fraction too large but regardless are great value. Bananas are easing as they do every November. Lychees have started and they are really good but my goodness, they are very, very dear!
In mangoes, the Katherine KPs are coming to an end. Honey golds are just around the corner but won’t be ready until next week. To get us through, we have Calypsos and R2E2s. Neither are my favourite, however if properly ripe, both are quite acceptable. In December, we will return to Queensland KPs, however it’s a very small crop from there this year.
