Dave's Market Update - 23.9.20
IN FRUIT:
Tray sale Kensington Pride mangoes are in stores now. The mangoes are “scruffy” in appearance however, they are really sweet and juicy. Grab a tray, you won’t be disappointed - enjoy the savings.
Papaya is a good fruit option the week. From Mareeba in Far North Queensland, papaya is becoming increasing popular. For those consumers who haven’t tasted this very underrated fruit, maybe dip the toe in the water and try papaya in our cut fruit range or even a half.
Freshly squeezed orange juice is on promotion in all stores this week. Our juicing oranges come from the Riverina district and juice is freshly squeezed each night for distribution the following morning. Currently, we're selling the 1.5 litre juice at the usual price of 1 litre. The price is not the only sweetener, the juice is also delightful.
IN VEG:
It's not often that there’s more excitement in vegetables than fruit but that is the case this week in the markets. Some good rainfall and moderate temperatures over the last week has the markets filled with fantastic quality vegetables.
One of the highlights this week is our Sydney basin vegetables. They're grown on the outskirts of Sydney, less than an hour from our distribution centre. Kale, English spinach, Dutch carrots, silverbeet, shallots, lebanese cucumbers, shallots and Asian vegetables are all amazing, the freshness really enhances the eating experience.
Queensland and Victoria are both supplying the markets with large numbers of quality broccolini. It's on promotion in all Harris Farm stores and is retailing at a price we only see a handful of times a year. Other vegetables in good supply include Broccoli, beans, celery, lettuce and Imperfect eggplant, whilst new season Australian asparagus volumes are still strong and quality is excellent.
There's a few more truss tomatoes and broad beans around the markets this week. Look for prices to ease in the coming days.
