Dave's Market Update - 22.09.21
In Veg: Old fashioned rhubarb is the vegetable of the week for me; it’s always at its best in spring and it’s a great price in all HFM stores this week. We had a great reaction from our customers last week in response to the artichoke special. The majority of the stores that didn’t have them on special last week, will have them this week. For salads, cucumbers and iceberg lettuce are both great value this week. Of the winter lines, fennel, Dutch carrots and leeks are all very well priced; I think we still have some cooler nights coming to enjoy these!
In Fruit: This week, the good eating mangoes (all Kensington Prides) are in our stores; I would not take any other mango home at this stage. The Northern Territory growers do a mighty job, and over the next three or so weeks are the time when they are at their best! It’s time now to think about a tray if you are buying for a family. The premium blueberries that we sell cost about double the average supermarket blueberry, and to me that’s a true reflection of their value. Raspberry supplies are also increasing and prices will gradually ease here also. As the warmer weather approaches, supply of seedless watermelon is increasing; price for these watermelons is now very reasonable and this trend will continue into next week too!
