Dave's Market Update - 21.04.2020

IN VEG:
Cooler conditions have impacted the vegetable market of late. Whilst there is a general drop in supply until the Queensland season kicks in, the beauty of the markets is if you look hard enough, you can always find something. Currently in good supply are fennel, tender stem baby broccoli, celery, brussels sprouts, Imperfect Zucchini, pumpkins and kumera. Low carb washed potatoes are a great product; a beautiful versatile yellow fleshed potato which make the most magnificent creamy mash, chip or roasted potato. Victorian brussels sprouts are a good option this week for a hearty veg. Brussel sprouts often carry the legacy of the older varieties which tended to be oversized, bitter and unpleasant to eat. The new varieties of sprouts are quite the opposite – they are considerably smaller, sweeter and amazing eating. They pair incredibly well with a good steak! Also in the markets this week are some good quality truss.

IN FRUIT:
New season apple crops are gaining momentum, with this week marking the first decent quantity of pink lady apples coming into the markets. As is the case with all new season apples, the best is still to come. Queensland Fuyu fruit are in good supply this week. Look for prices to continue to ease in the coming weeks.
