IN FRUIT
Nothing much new in fruit this week... A few more mangoes around than last week, they are eating OK but will get better each week, it will be late October for the really huge supplies to hit Sydney. They are of course a change and we love that. For me the best fruit options are still blueberries, papaya and kiwi gold. Bananas are a little more plentiful this week and rockmelons and seedless watermelon are more plentiful than they have been. Still lots of strawberries and imported grapes, apples and citrus fruit.
IN VEGETABLE
Lots of bargains, lots of options in the vegetable area this week. Most tomatoes except truss have started to fall in price as the supplies increase. Really good quality beans are a bargain. There are lots of really fresh spring new season vegetables this week. I can’t remember asparagus falling in price this quickly, however some inclement weather down south will interrupt supplies here towards the weekend. Snow peas are fresh and excellent quality and cheap. Rhubarb is plentiful and the big fall this week is in Dutch carrots. Big price falls in Iceberg lettuce, zucchini and fennel are expected and happening this week. Broccoli and broccolini are also easing in price. All in all expect your vegetable bill to be smaller this week than last!
