Dave's Market Update - 12 October 2022

A collage of fresh fruit and vegetables including bananas, mango and tomatoes

In Fruit

Mangoes from the Territory are now really good. Prices have eased and the better quality growers, mostly a bit outside Darwin, are now picking very good volumes which should see prices ease even more next week. They are still a bit slow to ripen but they are worth the wait. Bananas also are continuing to improve in quality and are still very well priced. Heavy rain is having an adverse effect on berry quality and so nothing is keeping well. Mandarins are finishing up and we have some really good papaya in our stores this week, far cheaper than last week.

In Veg

Asparagus is probably cheaper than it has been over the last six or seven years. Kale also is very inexpensive. Cukes are a bargain as are truss tomatoes. In fact, all our stores have a bargain in tomatoes and snacking tomatoes. Spinach remains cheap and telegraph cucumbers are way back in price. I love Dutch carrots and they are a great buy this week and will remain so for a few weeks.
