Dave's Market Update - 12 April 2023
In Veg
Supplies are a little short at the time of writing this update as both growers and transporters are acutely aware of penalty rates over this holiday period. It should all be back to normal by the weekend or early next week.We have good supplies of imperfect kumera, broccolini, baby cukes, and telegraph cucumbers.
In Fruit
The supply of fruit is far less disrupted by public holidays than vegetables of course. We have a fabulous new apple from the Montague team who are developing new apples with a focus on taste and this one, Ambrosia™ delivers in spades! It’s another great week again for rockmelons, raspberries, and bananas. Our last plum of the year, the Flavour Fall from Western Australia are underway this week. All grapes and avocados are well supplies and excellent. With Ramadan in full swing, we are going to promote fresh dates this week in our stores. We are not going to push Imperial mandarins which some retailers have started, our team thinks the Afourer variety is better to eat. I always think of Imperials as being best in May. Grapes continue to deliver value and I think the premium whites, which are dear are the best grape you will eat.
