Dave's Market Update - 12.2.20
IN FRUIT:
We are sadly coming to the end of the Honey Gold mango and Silky mango season. This week may be the last opportunities to enjoy these terrific mangoes, so make sure to put some in your basket when you next shop! There is still an abundance of high quality stone fruit in the markets; peaches and nectarines both yellow and white varieties are exceptional, with the stand out this week in the category being our yellow peaches, which are a joy to eat.
In grapes, our white seedless grapes and red seedless grapes are terrific this week. Sweet and crunchy, making them the perfect snack, especially for kids. Plums this week are similar to last week - hard to go past the sugar plums and the Queen Garnets.
In apples, our new season Gala apples will not have the colour of previous years. This has been caused by excessive temperatures and lack of cool nights. Whilst the Gala crop may not be highly coloured, this will not impact the eating quality so you can purchase with confidence. All melons are well supplied, in particular rockmelons which are our pick of the week this week!
IN VEG:Â
The vegetable market is still struggling. Recent weather conditions have impacted quality, so the message remains the same: keep all veg purchases as close to the intended day of use as is possible.Â
Some better news; fennel is well supplied and there is extra quantity of Victorian corn in the markets. Broccolini is on promotion in all stores, and it is good value. Telegraph cucumbers from South Australia are also well supplied and down considerably from last week.
