Dave's Market Update - 09 November 2022

A selection of spring fruit and veg as a collage

In Fruit:

Still a bit of a battle with the damage done by the weather. The berries just haven’t been quite up to scratch but are starting to come good this week. Imported white grapes are no good at all and we have very good Australian product, but they are horrendously dear. That situation looks like not changing until the grapes from Emerald start in a couple of weeks. So again, this week for fruit it’s mangoes and more mangoes. Different varieties and Queensland fruit now getting underway. I still prefer the old fashioned KPs for flavour. Papaya is still very good and reliable and of course apples and pears will run for a while yet. Pink Ladies (especially from Western Australia) are my pick of the apples, but Grannies are also very good. Don’t forget to look for a bargain in the imperfect section on these.

In Veg:

Lots of good options in cucumbers this week with Lebanese, telegraphs and cukes all being well priced. We have a great special on shallots this week and imperfect kumera is very good quality and very well priced. Truss tomatoes are still fantastic and cheap. I am glad I am not a tomato grower. We have a fantastic offer in our store with large punnets of Mix a Mato snacking tomatoes, these prices can’t last. Broccolini is good value this week as some of the traditional cooler weather lines have started to climb in price, normal for this time of the year. This tomato glut can’t go on enjoy them while it lasts.
