Dave's Market Update - 08.11.16

IN FRUIT
Darwin KP mangoes are hitting their peak supply this week and the Katherine fruit is now underway also. Prices are easing and the quality is fantastic. Whole trays are at least $5.00 cheaper than last week and there is a good chance this price may ease again  this weekend or more likely next week. The KP price will also come under pressure as other varieties get underway next week - first the R2E2s and very soon Calypsos.. then soon after Honeygolds. It looks like the next four or so weeks will be mango heaven! Still no great news on the cherry front, most of what we are seeing in the market are waterlogged tasteless fruit that we wont sell, hope that changes soon. The better drinking coconuts are now underway in time for summer. Peach and nectarine supply is increasing but they are only average to eat at this stage. Most apple supplies are drying up so mangoes and berries are the best fruit options.

IN VEGETABLE
Still lots of good options around. I had some loose red snacking tomatoes at one of our stores yesterday, they were fantastic. Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, kumatos in 500gm packs and Ox Hearts are all reasonable and tasty. Broccoli and broccolini are both cheaper this week than last and for salads Iceberg lettuce and baby cucumbers are well supplied. As far as vegetables to cook are concerned,  bunches of beetroot, pumpkin and beans are all really good value.
