Dave's Market Update - 07 December 2022
In fruit:
The tsunami of mangoes continues. It’s hard to pick between the KPs and Honey Golds, both are really eating well. In berries, it’s blacks and raspberries all the go.
We are starting to get some fairly decent cherries at last and assuming no huge storms, we think Christmas week will be ok - they won’t be cheap, but they should be good. Vietnam is competing very aggressively with the domestic market for the premium-sized fruit.
White grapes from Emerald are well-priced and top quality, far better than the reds or blacks at this stage. We are just starting to see premium apricots and peaches arrive and expect to have excellent stock by next week.
In veg:
Tomatoes and more tomatoes. All our stores have snacking and truss tomatoes at the cheapest price we have seen for years. Iceberg lettuce has fallen in price and will be cheap by the weekend. Likewise, kale, imperfect zucchini, and basil continue to be inexpensive and good.
