Dave's Market Update - 02 November 2022

A selection of late spring fruit and veg

In Fruit:

This cold, wet weather continues to play havoc with supply and demand for the products we would normally be promoting. It makes planning very difficult, and we tend to have hit-or-miss specials rather than being able to offer consistent week-long specials. So in Sydney this weekend, we will have our very popular $20.00 tray sale mangoes. I am unable to guarantee that offer into next week or to our Queensland stores. We will have plenty of excellent loose and imperfect mangoes on offer in all our stores. We are also promoting our imperfect lemons this week as premium stock becomes scarce and more expensive. Stone fruit is not ripening with the cold weather, so we will have to wait until later in the month to really get going with these. We are now selling nearly all West Australian avocados, with just a few South Australian as well. This is all new season fruit and is far superior and more reliable than anything from Queensland or New Zealand, which many of our competitors are stocking.

In Veg:

We have some fantastic cold-weather specials in our stores this week. Caulies and Broccoli are both extremely well-priced and suited to the colder weather we are experiencing. Our Sydney stores have a very inexpensive deal with radish at half last week's price. Radish is one of those old-fashioned vegetables enjoying a revival in popularity, with many recipes now including radish. Unfortunately, we cannot get suitable transport to offer this special in Queensland. Iceberg lettuce, imperfect kumera, snacking tomatoes, and truss tomatoes are also very well supplied. Coriander, our most popular herb by far, is also on special at all our stores this week.
