Dave's Market Update - 01.09.21

In fruit: I am loving our premium blueberries at the moment. They are exactly double the price of your standard supermarket line (yep that’s how we refer to them in house), but guess what? They are worth every penny of the difference. So, for real taste, the premium bluebs are the way to go. Afourer mandarins are cheap; citrus, pears, avos and apples all remain great value. The better mangoes from the better growing areas start arriving next week and they will become our main focus. Spring papaya has seen a sharp increase in supply this week and prices will ease as the week goes on.

In veg: It’s September and as always, Australian asparagus has arrived. It’s a couple of weeks fresher than the imported product, and so we at Harris Farm, start it as quickly as we can; while its available we don’t touch the imported product. I had some last night and it’s really excellent! You can definitely taste the difference. The Spring conditions have also bought on the new season Lebanese cucumbers, and a wonderful harvest of coriander. Zucchinis and Imperfect zucchini love this weather too, and prices are dropping as the new crops come on line. All of our NSW stores have a fantastic line of new season Desiree potatoes, at a knockout price as well. In addition, the old crops of capsicums, celery and corn are cropping strongly with the warmer weather. Your vegetable bill should definitely be less this week than it has been, enjoy!
