Dave's Market Update - 23.3.22
In fruit:
Greenskin avocadoes are now in all HFM stores, ready to go! This is the first avocado of the year. Personally, I will stick with the old season Hass this week; the Greenskin Shepards will only get better as each week passes. This is the last week for our KP mangoes; we now have delicious mangosteens in store. Tegan Blue plums are at their best and Australian pomegranates are starting to ease in price. Lots of fantastic grapes, apples and pears available and raspberries are the best value in berries. Again, bananas are oversupplied and will be cheap this week!
In veg:
Yet another tough week in vegetables and I can only see that getting worse. At this time of the year, we would normally be starting to transition from Victoria to Southern Queensland, around the Darling Downs area. This year, there have been no plantings and therefore, no crops about to start. It will be really hard going into Easter and the few weeks after that. The only value items in veg that I am seeing is eggplant, in our NSW shops, and kumera and Imperfect kumera, in both states.
