Dave's Market Update - 30.01.19

IN FRUIT
The new season fruits are now underway. We are seeing the first of the new season apples, Galas from Bilpin, very very local. The weather is a bit too hot for apple harvesting, however some cooler days in the next week will improve this situation. Also, the first of the new season Williams pears have arrived. Mangoes and cherries are fewer in number but still excellent to eat. This week we still have Honey Gold mangoes but mostly we will be selling Palmers, a strange coloured but good eating mango. Grapes and rockmelons are both fantastic and well-priced as are lychees. As always with lychees however, you get what you pay for, and there are some cheap, poor-quality offerings available in the marketplace that will inevitably disappoint. We also are starting the better plum varieties this week. We have some really good Amber Jewels from Forbes in store this week at very attractive prices.
IN VEGIES
Another really hot week both here and in Victoria continues to make vegetable supply very difficult. Everything is pretty much available, but quality has been affected on many lines and the product does not keep as well. The best buys this week are 1kg carrots, corn and a couple of the snacking tomato varieties – the Samparis and sweet delights. Our big push this week is on the Snackables baby carrots, just perfect for the school lunch box.
