Dave's Market Update - 29.08.18

daves market update 29th august harris farm
IN FRUIT
The Australian mango season is upon us. Northern Territory Kensington Pride mangoes from Darwin are available in all stores and the fruit is eating very well for so early in the season. There is a strong supply of seedless watermelon this week coming in from Northern Territory and Queensland and it tastes great. Strawberries are still well supplied, and blueberries are eating fantastically at the moment. Blueberry volumes into the market will increase over the coming days so expect some good opportunities as the week goes on. There have been some minor supply disruptions due to some inclement weather but nothing of major significance.

IN VEGETABLES

Spring has arrived a week early at Harris Farm with Australian asparagus and our snacking tomato varieties in strong supply. Sweet delights, petite tomatoes, yellow snacking tomatoes and grape tomatoes are all excellent value. We have Australian asparagus in all our stores and after having to endure with the imported product for some time, we know the Aussie product will be well received. Coming from Mildura and Kooweerup it is shaping up to be a good season for asparagus. Capsicums, gourmet tomatoes and beans have had some disruptions due to some unseasonal cold weather conditions in far north Queensland however, there are plenty of good opportunities with other veg lines this week. The markets are in strong supply of English spinach, herbs, baby cucumbers, eggplant, corn, beetroot, fennel, broccoli, broccolini, globe artichokes, Brussels sprouts and Dutch carrots.
