IN FRUIT
Stone fruit gets better every week. Mangoes are still the number one line and we have multiple options, all great quality and great value in this area. Fantastic Honey Golds and new season KPs from Queensland have been joined by a superb line of organic mangoes in our stores. They typify the new organic lines in Australia today, really good quality and only marginally dearer than the regular line. Organic sales are growing rapidly for us and this trend will continue if this quality of organic fruit becomes the norm.
Seedless watermelon, topless pineapples, papaya and limes from North Queensland are all in very strong supply and prices are easing. The mainland cherry crop took a battering last week with those incredible winds but the fresh fruit coming off now augurs well for the run up to Christmas. Aussie grapes, especially the whites, are starting to eat well. For those who enjoy pomegranates but don’t like the work involved, the first of our imported prepackaged pomegranate arils have started.
IN VEGETABLES
Again it’s the salad lines that lead the charge in the vegetable category. All cucumbers, truss tomatoes, various snacking tomatoes including medley mixes, iceberg lettuce and twin pack cos lettuce are all in abundant supply and very good quality. Snow peas are good and cheap. Today I am not thinking of a salad however the rest of the week looks like great weather.
