Dave's Market Update | Harris Farm Markets

IN FRUIT:
The pick in berries this week is our premium blueberries. Premium in quality, not price. In fact, they are on promotion at a great price in all stores. Coming out of Mundubbera in Queensland this fruit has not been impacted by the recent rainfall on the NSW north coast where many of the blueberries come from at this time of the year.  The fruit is just the way we like them – large, crunchy and sweet!

Due to the extended winter in the Northern Territory this year, the Kensington pride crops have only been trickling into the markets. Look for this to change in the next week or so as weather conditions heat up. The fruit at the moment is exceptional eating due the extended period the fruit has been hanging on the tree.  The normal time period for a KP mango to reach maturity is around 100 days. The KP mangoes currently in stores have had hang time of up to 130 days, so they’re super sweet!

Our late week fresh juice special is Harris Farm mandarin juice. Made from Honey Murcott mandarins, this juice is delectable and available in all stores this week.

The highlight in organic this week is bananas from Innisfail in far North Queensland. For customers who don’t usually buy organic this week would be an excellent opportunity to dip your toe in the water with an outstanding product at a great price.

IN VEG:
The Sydney basin leafy vegetable crops are beginning to flourish. The recent rains has provided the impetus for growth, so volumes of good quality silverbeet, kale, rhubarb, spring onions, Dutch carrots, Asian veg, beetroot, and English spinach are increasing. Other vegetables in good supply include broccolini, leeks and broccoli. Carrots, kumera and celery are easing also. Volumes of new season asparagus are strong in the markets this week. Prices are easing and the quality is amazing.

Broad beans from our long-time farmer friend John Fazzalori has started. John have been supplying Harris Farm Markets with high quality broad beans well over ten years now.  His broad beans are sweet and tender, and in all stores. Expect to see volumes increase considerably over the next few weeks.

Spring time means tomato time. In particular snacking tomatoes. The market is very well supplied with great quality snacking tomatoes. We have the whole range of red snacking tomatoes on promotion in all stores. Customers can mix and match as they are all selling at one great price.

We also have a fantastic sale on great quality herb pots this week starting on Friday. Good stocks across the range with basil, coriander, parsley curly, parsley flat, mint, rosemary, sage, oregano, thyme, Greek basil!

Organic basil from Peats Ridge on the Central coast of NSW is also in reasonable supply this week. It’s on promotion in all stores this week at a fantastic price.
