Dave's Market Update - 24.7.19
IN FRUIT:
There has been very little change from last week. Our grapes will now all be imported until November. On the topic of imported fruit, I believe the blood plums we have in store are extraordinarily good eating. This week we have fantastic Nets of passionfruit; great eating, very well priced, absolutely in season. Bananas continue to be great value, and the berries are outstanding. One of my favourites, blood oranges are now underway. They are not sweet like a Navel, but I firmly believe they produce the best fresh squeezed orange juice of the year. It’s only a short season so enjoy them whilst you can! Of course, the winter citrus, apples and pears all continue to be fantastic value, excellent for the back to school lunchbox.
IN VEG:
Lots of very good veg options again this week. Best of all are the new season brushed potatoes from Hillston. A really top line of produce that will keep well for a few weeks, but will be dearer going forward, so stock up this week. Caulies, broccoli, leeks, bunch beetroot, twin pack cos, Dutch carrots and Brussels sprouts are all top quality and excellent value. Baby broccoli, fennel and rhubarb are all still very reasonable. Lots of choice veg shopping this week will be very easy on the pocket!
