Dave's Market Update - 24.04.19
IN FRUIT
May is for mandarins and it’s May next week. Perfect for the back to school lunch boxes, they are now eating fantastically and are very well priced. The other back to school line is bananas, same as above great quality and very inexpensive. Grapes are still good but please focus on the red and black varieties. Apples and pears are all now in full swing and great value. Raspberries continue to be sweet and cheap, they are just the best on the morning cereal. Our last plum of the year, the Flavourfalls are at their best and for something a bit different try our orange candy melons, great eating and quite a unique flavour. Finally, Fuyu fruit are still very good value though not as cheap as last week due to the Queensland supply now coming to an end.
IN VEGIES
Best news of the week is that broccoli has nearly halved in price since the middle of last week. It’s coming from everywhere from Queensland right down to Tasmania, and while this mild weather continues the price will only fall further. Corn (loose cobs not prepacks), lettuce, red capsicums and onions are all easing in price. The glut of zucchinis continues and there are real bargains to be had in Imperfect kumara, and this week sees a halving in price of Dutch carrots. Mild Autumn weather plus school holidays is leading to oversupply in lots of vegetable lines.
