IN FRUIT
There's lots of good things happening in the fruit category this week. The best fruit this week for me is the fabulous Honey Gold mangoes. This early fruit is incredibly good, clean and delicious. They are definitely the mango to buy this week. Still lots of good berries today and the next couple of days with boysenberries and blackberries arriving in significant numbers as well. I think boysenberries are the most delicious of all berries, but they have a very short season, so don’t miss out on this taste treat. Heavy rain down south could damage the berries for a few days by this weekend. Nectarines, peaches and white grapes are all cheaper and better than a week ago. By this weekend some fairly reasonable eating cherries will be in our stores. That said, the really good fruit always starts around a week into December.
IN VEGETABLES
It’s a great week for a salad. All cucumbers are fantastic and all our stores have one or more varieties of delicious snacking tomatoes in punnets on special. This week truss tomatoes have eased in price and both Treviso and radicchio lettuce are superb quality. Twin packs of baby cos lettuce are also really excellent, so enjoy a salad this week. Broccolini, cauliflowers and snow peas are all well priced and all three lend themselves to either cooking or raw in that salad we discussed. For us, this will be a huge week on cup mushrooms which are perfect quality, really cheap and again suitable to cook or put raw into your salad!
