Dave's Market Update - 12.06.2018

IN FRUIT
Continuing on from last week, our new season Queensland strawberries are definitely the berry of choice. With great flavour and a shelf life to match it will be hard to leave them off the shopping list. Blueberries and raspberries are at a reasonable price also. Avocados continue to be well priced. With this year’s Hass season being predominately on the large size, we continue to offer good value across our large fruit. The apple of choice this week is our imperfect pink lady, which is certainly priced to please. For something different this week try a Beurre Bosc pear. On winter nights these pears are a great way to cap off a meal in a dessert - try a poached Beurre Bosc pear with vanilla bean served with ice cream. This week will see the transition from Californian cherries to the Northern states, heading to the Washington area. The fruit from the Northern states is darker in colour and the eating quality is far superior. To finish off the fruit bowl we have a good offer on both the green and gold kiwifruit.
IN VEGETABLES
The pick in veg this week is broccoli. With supply from Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania there is certainly no shortage and the quality is fantastic. Imperfect kumera, imperfect zucchini and imperfect parsnips are all at an attractive price and well supplied in all stores. Red capsicums supplied out of Bowen and Bundaberg are starting to ramp up so we will see which a price reduction compared to last week’s price. There is a tomato offer to please everyone this week. Whether it be gourmet tomatoes due to an oversupply out of Queensland, Truss tomatoes out of South Australia or our superb eating snacking tomatoes, enjoy taking your pick.
