IN FRUIT:
Our berries are still in full swing. Maybe a few less strawberries than last week but still plenty available. Blueberries are just fantastic, and raspberries are starting to increase their supply and improve in quality. Bananas are also falling in price. Papaya and pink lady apples are well supplied also. I ate a couple of Honey Murcott mandarins this week and they are now at their best. High demand from Asia for these means they will tend to be quite expensive all season. Sea freight grapes are now in NZ (actually stuck in port there) but as soon as they arrive, hopefully by this weekend, prices will tumble on these also. Avocados, navel and blood oranges, and lemons are still great value so lots of excellent fruit options this week.
We have a real bargain on brushed potatoes at all Harris farm stores this week. As well, both regular and Imperfect black zucchini are cheap and excellent quality. The weather in Qld has cooled off a little and the quality is at its best again. Corn is fantastic and cheaper than last week, and our organic prepack line is particularly good value. Asparagus is now all Australian, and so far fresher and better than the imported product that we had up until last week. Mushrooms are very good and a little oversupplied and fennel continues to be cheap. Spinach and English Spinach are well supplied and great quality. For something different the small eggplant is great value this week.
