IN FRUIT
Of all the newer varieties of apples, Kanzi has proved to be the most popular with our customers. The best of them come from the Batlow district and it is these on special at Harris Farm this week. The other good news is that the New season Australian pomegranates are now in full swing, sales of this line grow every year. There’s lots of bananas at great prices and grapes continue to have a great season. Black Americas (the variety, not the country of origin) are my pick this week. My plum of the week is the last plum (actually a pluot) of the season, the west Australian Flavourfalls. It’s all over with mangoes for the season, it’s been a great one! Raspberries and strawberries are both good and papaya continues to be good value. For new fruit, the imperial mandarins are starting to eat well, but only get better as we move towards May which is always the peak of the imperial mandarin season. Fuyu is the other one, they are now eating extremely well.
IN VEGIES
Bargain of the week is garlic. We are near the end of the Australian season and so now we start using imports. This garlic is good quality, but the importers occasionally overorder and when they do, it’s bargain time for our customers. Look for great specials in-store. Cauliflowers, fennel, kumera and Brussels sprouts all remain fantastic value. Organic broccoli is either the same price or cheaper than the conventional product this week, and fantastic glasshouse eggplant is superb to eat and at bargain prices.
