Dave's Market Update - 03.10.18

IN FRUIT
Fruit this week is about berries and mangoes. The best mangoes are Northern Territory KPs and they are cheap and good. Full trays are a very good option this week. In berries, there are plenty of excellent raspberries, blueberries and mulberries. Also, very limited quantities of new season blackberries are just starting. For strawberries, the west Australian new season fruit tastes fresher than the Queensland fruit which is pretty much at the end of its run. Look at the label to identify WA fruit. Very soon Victorian fruit will be available too. In grapes, the blacks are a good option, some of the whites don’t seem to be travelling so well. Pinks are the best of the apples and papaya is very good. Seedless watermelon is very reasonably priced and Navel oranges are now at their sweetest.

IN VEGETABLES
Spring vegetables are just fantastic. This week sees Lebanese cucumbers reduce in price by nearly one third. Fabulous Australian asparagus is absolutely at its peak and cheap as well. New season broad beans have nearly halved in price since last week. Dutch carrots, rhubarb, all cabbages, spinach, English spinach, shallots, broccolini and sweet delight tomatoes are all fantastic quality. Sunny days and not so cold nights combine to give us well priced, superb quality vegetables.
