Dave's Market Update - 03.04.18

IN FRUIT
The best news this week is the continued descent of avocado prices. All fruit is very reasonable and our imperfect offer is getting to be a real bargain again. Lemons and limes are both good buying, as is papaya and all grapes (maybe less so the white seedless). Bananas are heavily supplied again, and the tail end of the massive Australian mango crop is here this week, only a few weeks to go, read my Pick of the Week regarding Brooks mangoes. I would recommend two varieties of plums this week, September Candies and October Suns, both very good eating plums. If I had to choose one I would pick the October Suns.
A very good choice of vegetables at Harris Farm this week. Kumera continues to be a bargain, as cheap as I have seen it for years. It is an obvious option to potatoes, and at these low prices a very attractive option. There is more butternut pumpkin arriving daily at the markets and prices are easing quickly, particularly anything that has a blemish on the skin. All cucumbers are great value and tomatoes are starting to ease also. Cauliflowers, broccolini and eggplant are all very good buying this week.
