Supporting Aboriginal Kids to Learn, Grow and Thrive: Redfern Jarjum College

Redfern Jarjum College plays a vital role in supporting Aboriginal children by providing a safe, nurturing place where learning, culture and care come together.

Jarjum College goes beyond education. It supports children and families through daily structure, cultural connection and, critically, access to nutritious food. For its students, the school provides consistent, balanced meals — a foundation that helps children feel settled, focused and ready to learn.

Every school day, Redfern Jarjum College provides breakfast, lunch and two snacks, ensuring students are nourished throughout the day. This commitment recognises that learning doesn’t happen in isolation — children need to feel supported physically, emotionally and culturally to thrive.

Since the opening of the Harris Farm Markets Redfern store in August 2024, we’ve been supporting Jarjum College through our Neighbourhood Goodness program. Each month, the school receives a gift card, giving staff the flexibility to choose fresh food that best suits their students’ needs, from fruit and vegetables to everyday essentials.

In January, Jarjum College was also featured as our GoGenerosity partner. Each month, we feature a different charity or community organisation on our website with a donation widget. Customers can choose to donate any amount at checkout, and we then match every dollar donated, converting the total into a Harris Farm gift card for the organisation, in this case helping extend the school’s ability to provide fresh food where it’s needed most.

Jarjum College’s work makes a real difference in the lives of Aboriginal children by creating stability, care and opportunity. We’re proud to support their mission in a practical way, backing the people who are already doing the work on the ground, every day.

Neighbourhood Goodness focuses on supporting local communities in practical ways. Working alongside Redfern Jarjum College is one way we can contribute to the care and support of Aboriginal children.
