Dave's Market Update - 2.12.20
IN VEG:
More bargains in tomatoes this week with cheap and good truss as well as Sampari and Tomberries being the best value in the snacking category. Biggest price fall this week is loose corn, now at roughly half last week's price. It's tender and sweet New Season corn from Victoria. I am pleased to say we have good supplies of Australian garlic in store and there are bargains in regular and Imperfect zucchini, net red capsicums, celery and mushrooms. Bargains can also be found in cauliflowers, telegraph cues and Iceberg lettuce. Nothing is especially dear as the run up to Christmas gathers momentum.
IN FRUIT:
All our stonefruit are really starting to eat well. Peaches, nectarines, apricots and all the grapes, particularly the white variety, are now sensibly priced and good eating. Lychees are still dear and although there are now plums in store, it is maybe a bit early for them. Honeygold mangoes are definitely the pick of that category. This weekend, we will have some trays of mangoes which have superficial marks on the skin at a fantastic price in all our stores. Bananas are still inexpensive, as is papaya and limes are easing in price. Berries don’t like this very hot weather we are having and wont keep well. The best of them this week will be blackberries and raspberries so lots of delicious options to choose from.
