Dave's Market Update - 17.6.20
IN FRUIT:Â
Berries are the best news of the week. I really look forward each year to winter berries, they are the best! The season starts with strawberries from the Sunshine coast and soon after the blueberries, and then raspberries and blackberries all get into full swing. So, assuming no heavy rain or extreme cold, the berries will just get better and better and probably somewhat cheaper every week. The other product that always comes into its own late June and early July is passionfruit. This year is no exception and by this weekend, prices will start to fall. The last two years have been difficult, but this year looks like a boomer! Green and gold kiwi are both at their best right now and red grapes and honeydew melons continue to be very good value. Navel Oranges are fantastic, the bad news is that apples just get more and more difficult post drought and bushfires.
IN VEG:Â
The basics are the best value this week, mainly potatoes, onions and carrots. With potatoes, prepacks are the best value and all our stores have a special on loose red washed potatoes at virtually half of last week’s price. All the sweet potatoes are good value with spinach, rhubarb and particularly imperfect zucchinis being outstanding value. Cauliflowers and spinach are both very reasonable and good wholesome winter vegetables
