Dave's Market Update - 12.12.18

daves market update harris farm

IN FRUIT
Reed avocados are in full swing this week. They don’t go black when ripe, you need to touch them to test for maturity. They are extremely good value in all HFM stores this week and the flavour is fantastic. Stone fruit is absolutely in full swing. Apricots are just fantastic but also peaches, nectarines and lychees are very good too. KP mangoes from Queensland are at their peak as is seedless melon. White grapes and cherries round off the fantastic stone fruit offer this week. Berries are improving in quality this week after rain, and raspberries from Tasmania are starting to arrive in good numbers. All in all, an excellent week for seasonal summer fruit.

IN VEGIES
The glut in punnets of tasty small tomatoes has driven the price of all tomatoes down this week. Particularly the yellow and sweet delights are totally oversupplied. In turn this has affected all tomato prices. Personally, I still prefer the old-fashioned Ox Hearts, they go soft and overripe very quickly but are such a joy to eat. We welcome back our small packets of snackable carrots from the Harvest Moon company in Tasmania again this week, it is such a good product. Still lots of mushrooms, iceberg lettuce and caulies around. All cucumbers remain good value and this week there is another flood of zucchini starting to happen.
